What if we were all just simulations. And created by our ancestors who left earth a long time ago. And they are type 5 civilisation.

Answer:

Introduction:

It’s a really tough question since nobody in our days can absolutely true to the facts envision of how much a civilization must evolve to achieve the “Kardashev V” stage but there can be some vague assumptions based in the fantasy of one who thinks about how powerful such a civilization can become. Well, we have to go up the ladder:

The Civilization stages:

Type I:

Such a civilization can use up the power of their original home world by using all of geothermic, wind power, solar power, all the ressources up to the mantle layer of the planet.

Most likely they’ve developed a global civilization with world spanning organizations and a world wide economy.

- Such a civilization starts to understand the nature of the universe they live in, the concept of evolution, the laws of physic.

- Such a civilization starts to create the first examples of nanotech, biotech, the use of the power of the atom and creates the first generations of computer networks.

We humans are at best on 0.7 or 0.8. IF the religious and politically right and left leaning extremists doesn’t ruin everything in the future.

Type 02:

Such a civilization can use up the whole of the energy available in their home solar system like harvesting the power output of the parent star, harvesting the raw materials of all the celestial bodies in their solar system (asteroids, moons, terrestrial planets, gas planets).

Such a civilization might have created solar system wide organizations, interplanetary states, Dyson swarms of satellites surrounding the host star, have mastered artificial general intelligence and perhaps the technological singularity which means, even by the greatest effort, the organic members of the civilizations can’t comprehend the technology behind their creation, the artificial life forms.

Such a civilization could start to fully develop into a transhumanists (or insert species name here) culture and if done right they respect the “Naturals” and the “Enhanced” and not force one lifestyle over the other like depicted in the dystopian science fiction literature.

Religion might either be fully outmoded or ascended to another kind of religion.

Type 03:

Such a civilization is able to make use of the energy outut of their original home galaxy.

By now, such a civilization might either be millions or even billions of years old when using sole sub light technologies the (according to science) still inpenetrable barrier of the speed of light. It might be much younger if a hypothetically faster than light (FTL) travel and communication has been achieved (like the Alcubierre Drive) and other hypothetical technologies as found in many science fiction stories (aka space magic tech).

Such a civilization have reached a state in which according to hard science understanding, the maintenance of a galactic empire could be not manageable. But when they’ve developed FTL technologies there might be space empires as old as in hundreds of millennia or millions of years IF the universe already is old enough to have produced enough truly earth like planets in stable environments when one thinks in the 100′000 billions of years of the stelliferous era of the whole universe.

Such a civilization might look like gods in the view of “primitive” civilizations like a Type 01 one.

And now, here ends the “official” Kardashev scale since Russian astrophysicist and mathematician Nikolai Kardashev - Wikipedia thought this was the end of an at least somewhat comprehensible state of a max developed civilization.

So, the realm of pure science fiction (and the “abuse” of the Kardashev Scale ;-) ) starts.

Type 04:

Such a hypothetical civilization might be able to use up the energy output of the entire home universe! Yes, “home universe” as in only one universe among a sheer unending number of other universes and to remember, when our own universe has a flat geometry, it might be already infinite in its extend.

Well, such a civilization might have developed intergalactic casual flight, they might engage into cosmic engineering like rearranging whole galaxies to their likening, create artificial galaxies, pocket universes.

Their maxed out size of technology might be as large as whole galaxy groups and superclusters. Rings around a galaxy with their home colonies and so on.

The history of such a civilization might have to numbered in the 100s of millions of years, rich in events, catastrophes, downfalls and rises and they might have witnessed the rise and fall of billions of civilizations in the type 01 to type 02 level therefore making a civilization like our own here on good ol’ Earth a “weekly” event, not that special as the “pesky” humans might think in their delusion of grandeur.

Such a civilization starts to engage into “laws of physic engineering” if not in the previous state.
