the British Parliament passed an act in 1858 and the power was shifted from the East India Company to the British crown . now the British government accepted direct responsibility for ruling India. the British promise the Indian rulers that the kingdoms will not be annexed in the future the Indian rulers could pass on the kingdoms even to their adopted heirs . but in return the rulers had to accept the Paramount sovereignty of the British Monarch does the Indian rulers had to rule as subordinates of the British crown .
