Answer:

Forests are important reserve of the environment. Forests contributes to the water cycle of nature. The plants and trees growing in forests, looses excess water that they do not require for their metabolism. This process is known as transpiration. The water from aerial parts of the plant gets evaporated as water vapor. The concentration of water vapor in higher atmospheric layers is responsible for causing rain. This rain is responsible for accumulation of water as ground water because, the rain water gets seep inside the pores in the soil, and water concentrate as a reservoir underground. Therefore, an area exhibiting large forest cover will receive adequate rain fall and will have more number of ground water reserves.
