what impression do you form of him?(cold within)
Answers
“The Cold Within” is a short touching poem by James Patrick Kinney. The impression we form of him here is that he is an evil person.
EXPLANATION:
The poem is about six human beings who are trapped by chance on a very cold night. Each have a stick of wood but none are ready to part with it. Each had a grievance against one another be it for the colour of the skin, religion, class or social status and wealth. As they sat shivering in the cold each died in the end but that was not for the cold outside, but from the cold within.
Thus the impression that we form here of him is a synecdoche for all the sin human beings have that is man is selfish, prejudiced, malicious and suspicious by nature. He can never overcome the petty barriers of class, religion and all. Thus by the collective him the poet reminds us that if we selfishly hold onto the world’s resources and the wealth that it had to offer and if we persist on discriminating on grounds of race, cast, gender or religion we will all perish from the cold within.
