the postmaster and postmen in the starting of the chapter seem to be cruel as they used to mock the old ali who religiously used to visit the post office regardless of the harsh weather conditions. But as the end of story is near we See the caring side of postmaster. He was a doting father. The haughtiness and arrogance of postmaster gives away to remorse and enables him to under suffering of another human being.

The postmen and the postmaster in the story appear to be exploiting the situation of Ali, they call Ali a mad man and are often seen insulting him. They used to call out his name even when there was no letter for him, just to see him jump up in excitment in order to satisfy their amusement. They are inconsidereate and lack human emotions. The post master was of a haughty nature, he called Ali a pest and rediculed him. Though in the end he undergoes a complete change.
