Answer:

Impressions of past on the mind can be erased through practice of detachment and meditation. Life is full of opposites like good and bad, pain and pleasure, happiness and sorrow etc. Our mind usually likes one thing and dislikes its opposite. This develops attachment to one thing and aversion to another thing. When the object of our attachment is denied, it causes anger and we become bound by our action. Impressions are created on mind by each action and each experience and the mind loses its freshness to experience new things. We start interpreting every new experience as per our old experience and the mind becomes mechanical. This problem can be overcome by practice of detachment. For this, Bhagvadgeeta perscribes performance of action without expection of result which is called Nishkama Karma or desireless work. It means we will accept the result whether it is upto our expectation or not, with equanimity. More knowledge in this matter can be obtained by the study of Bhagvadgeeta and thorough introspection till you understand the concept and are able to apply it in real life.

An extension of this practice of detachment is regular practice of meditation when you become a choiceless, neutral observer of all your thoughts and actions as you sit quietly with closed eyes. You will not react to any thought as they come and go. Your mind will fall silent and free from all past impressions with regular practice. Performance of detached action will not create any further impressions and meditation will free you from all past impressions and you will become free from all impressions for ever.
