This is the case of the most unpopular disease where the fatality is rare called jaundice. Juandiceis characterised by a yellowish colouration of the sclera or sclerae (whites of the eyes), skin and mucous membranes due to a heavy buildup due to a yellow compound produced in the bile pigments called bilirubin (its counterpart is biliverdin). After bilirubin is formed from the breakdown of the heme pigment in aged red blood cells (worn out erythrocytes), it is transported to the main organ liver, where it is graudually processed and eventually excreted into the bile complex. Excess production of bilirubin leads to "prehepatic jaundice".
