Chola system of administration was unique and remarkable for its time.The unit of administration was village,whose affairs were conducted through popular assemblies and whatever the officers were appointed by state had performed their duties in observatory and advisory manner.

The famous Uttaramerur Inscriptions gives details of how the local self-government and village administration functioned.
