It cannot be option a, because the shadows could be longer or shorter than the actual object depending on the light source.

It cannot be option c, because the color of shadow is always black and the color of the object might differ, for example go under a lightsource and observe your shadow, it will be black in color but its not showing the "color of the exact object"

It cannot be option d, since we already found out that option a and c are wrong, option d is not applicable.

It is therefore option b, because it can show us the "shape" of the objects.
