Harris and George irritated Jerome by not doing anything while packing for the trip. When the author volunteered for packing and told Harris and George that they should better leave the whole matter entirely to him, they readily took up the suggestion. Immediately, George put on a pipe and spread himself over the easy-chair, and Harris cocked his legs on the table and lit a cigar.

This was hardly what the author had intended. He had meant that he should boss the job, and Harris and George should do the packing under his directions. Their total resignation to the job irritated him. He felt irritated as he had to work while they were relaxing.

Supposedly, this question is from the story named Three Men In A Boat.

Jerome was packing for their trip.

On the other hand, his two friends Harris and George were not doing anything.

This act irritated Jerome to a great extent.

This is basically a small scene from the story.
