I was never taught BODMAS, PEMDAS or similar useless acronyms. Just that multiplication takes precedence over addition (and subtraction). When you have reduced to just additions, go from left to right.None of my fellow students would have had any trouble with such an expression, which computes as

10+100−10=100

This is something you learn in sixth grade (at least in my country). I’m quite convinced that those acronyms are the real source for doubts about such expressions.Why do multiplications should be performed before additions? Because this is the convention that developed when people started to use symbolic algebras. If you want to use a different convention, just go forward, but don’t assume that people will understand it.
