              LONGITUDINAL WAVES

It basically means that a wave in which the particle movement is parallel to the direction of the propagation of the wave.

Explanation:

  • It means that waves in which particles are moving left to right  which in turn makes other particles start to oscillate.
  • These waves are also called as Pressure waves.
  • Examples : most common example of these type of waves is Sound wave.

Longitudinal waves are waves in which the displacement of the medium is in the same direction as, or the opposite direction to, the direction of propagation of the wave.
