An atom is the smallest part of an element which can take part in chemical reactions.

It is made up of three subatomic particles known as - protons (having positive charge), neutrons (having no charge) and electrons (having negative charge).

For example -

1.) Hydrogen atom - which has 1 proton and 1 electron with no neutron

2.) Oxygen atom - which has 8 proton and 8 electron with 8 neutron

Hi mate.

Thanks for asking this question.

Here is your answer,

An atom is the basic unit of a chemical element . Atoms are made out of three main parts: protons, neutrons and electrons. Protons and neutrons are contained inside the very center of the atom, which is called the nucleus.

Protons are stable subatomic particles, with a positive +1 charge and a mass of approximately one atomic mass unit.

Neutrons are stable subatomic particles with a neutral, or zero, charge and a mass of approximately one atomic mass unit.

electrons are stable subatomic particles, with a negative -1 charge and a mass 1/1836th of the mass of a proton.

Thank you.
