A reaction which has an equal number of atoms of all the elements on both sides of thechemical equation is called abalanced chemical equation. The law of conservation of mass states that mass can neither be created nor destroyed. Hence, in achemical reaction, the total mass of reactants should be equal to the total.

Dear Student,

◆ Balanced chemical equation -

  • Chemical equation is said to be balanced if no of atoms of each element on reactant side is equal to that on product side.
  • To balance any equation, we have to equalize no of each entity on both sides.

Q. Chemical equations should be balanced because -

  • By law of conservation of mass, atoms can neither be created nor be destroyed.
  • Therefore to satisfy this law, chemical equations need to be balanced.

Hope this helps you...
