In mathematics, a bijective function or bijection isa function f : A → B that is both an injection and a surjection. This means: for every element b in the codomain B there isexactly one element a in the domain A such that f(a)=b. Another name for bijection is 1-1 correspondence.

In mathematical terms, abijective function f: X → Y is a one-to-one (injective) and onto (surjective) mapping of a set X to a set Y. A bijection from the set X to the set Y has an inversefunction from Y to X. If X and Y are finite sets, then the existence of a bijection means they have the same number of elements.
