black hole is a place in space where gravity pulls so much that even light can not get out. The gravity is so strong because matter has been squeezed into a tiny space. This can happen when a star is dying. Because no light can get out, people can't see black holes. They are invisible

A Black hole is a Compressed dense mass with an intense gravitational field. The gravitational force of that black hole is so strong that nothing in it surrounding can escape from it, Not even light. As a result, The space around the black hole gets distorted. It is Similar to a gigantic funnel, Which becomes flatter and flatter towards the upper margin. Everything near this funnel then slips down and makes the funnel deeper due to it own weight. The black hole nearest our solar system is about 8200 light years away; so there is no real danger of being swallowed by it.
