Plateau is an elevated tract of relatively flat land ,usually limited on at least one side by Steep slope falling abruptly to lower land .

many plateau border mountain ranges and owe their present position to the uplifts that raised the mountain ,these are border plateaus.Piedmont plateau is the best example of a border plateau.this plateau is strip of land that stands between tile Atlantic coastal plain and Appalachian mountains. its eastern side is marked by fall line where the gradient of the riveris steepest.
