A buffer solution is the one who can resist the change in its pH, i.e., even on addition of small amount of acid or base its pH value will remain constant. Also, if a buffer solution is kept for a long time, pH will be constant.
Eg. A mixture of acetic acid(weak acid) and sodium acetate(strong base) will give you an acidic buffer.
There are three types of buffer solutions:
1. Acidic buffer
2. Basic buffer
3. Neutral buffer.
All three types of solutions can be prepared by different mixtures of strong/weak acids and bases.

Hey !!

1) The solution which maintains its pH or reserve acidic or basic nature even upon addition of a small amount of acid or a base is called buffer solution.

2) These solutions have a definite pH value.

3) In industries, buffer solutions are used for alcoholic fermentation (pH 5 to 6.5), tanning of leather, electroplating, sugar and paper industries.

4) In biological system buffer system of carbonic acid and sodium bicarbonate is found in out blood. It maintains the pH of our blood (about 7.4)

Good luck !!
