Explanation:

Carbon is an element which atomic number is 6 and and having a atomic mass 12.011

It belong to second period and 14 group in periodic table and it is an p- block element .

Carbon form many allotropic both crystalline as well as amorphous .

Diamond and graphite are two well known crystalline forms of carbon and a new discover in 1985 known as fullerenes.

Uses of carbon :

Being a good conductor so it is used for electrodes ( graphite ).

Carbon black is used for making ink .

Its coke is used as fuel and largely as reducing agent in metallurgy

Unique nature of carbon :

Due to its unique nature it is widely using in formation of organic compound.

I). Tetravalency of the carbon atom :

Carbon has four valance electron . And it neither lose nor gain electron to attain octet , it form covalent bond by sharing its four electronic with other element.

ii). Catenation : Carbon atom and property to link together ( self linking ) to form very long chain .

Note : The property of self- linking of the atom of an element through covalent bond in order to form straight chain , branched chain and cyclic chain of different size is known as catenation.
