The chemical formula of plaster of paris is CaSO4.1/2H2O .It is formed when Gypsum(CaSO4.2H2O)is heated at 100°C .


When we add water to plaster of paris(CaSO4.1/2H2O + 1-1/2H2O ----------->CaSO4.2H2O),it lead to the formation of Gypsum


Plaster of paris is kept in air tight containers because the water molecules present in air react with it and due to this it lead to the formation of Gypsum
