Heya..!

cloning vector (vehicle DNA):

these are DNA molecules which can carry a foreign DNA segment and can replicate inside a cell.

SOME FEATURES REQUIRED TO FACILITATE CLONING
1) origin of replication
2) selectable markers
3)cloning sites (recognition sites)

Cloning Vectors

The DNA molecule that can carry foreign DNA segment and replicate inside the host cell is called vector.

The vectors that may bre used in genetic engineering include;

  • Plasmids

  • Bacteriophages

  • Yeast Artificial Chromosome ( YACs )

  • Bacterial Artificial Chromosome ( BACs )

  • Cosmids

  • Animal and Plant Viruses

Plasmids and bacteriophages are most cmmonly used vectors.

A suitable cloning vector is choosen and cut with a restriction enzymes.

The desired gene is inserted into the cleaved vector by using DNA ligase.

The resulting recombinant vector is then introduced into a host cell for gene manipulation.
