Compound is a chemical entities which is formed when two or more atoms join together chemically, with covalent or ionic bonds.

  • All compounds are molecules, but not all molecules are compounds.
  • Compounds can be grouped in different ways.

Different Types of Compound

  • On the basis of number of atoms :- Diatomic, Triatomic or Polyatomic.

  • On the basis of type of chemical bonding :- Covalent compounds contain covalent bonds, and Ionic compounds contain ionic bonds.

  • On the basis of complexity :- Simple Compounds & Complex Compounds.

  • On the basis of components :- Organic Compound or Inorganic Compound.
  • Organic compounds include hydrocarbons, carboxylic acids, amides, ammines, alcohols, etc. Inorganic compounds include oxides, hydrides, halides, nitrites, nitrates, carbonates, etc.
