The continental crust is the layer of igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks that forms the continents and the areas of shallow seabed close to their shores, known as continental shelves.

Continental crust is also called SIAL.It is the upper layer of the Lithosphere and is generally composed of silicon and aluminium. It forms  a discontinuous cover over the crust of the earth and is entirely absent from ocean floor.
