A Copolymer is a polymer made up of two or more monomer species.

Example of Copolymer is Polyethylene - vinyl acetate .

• Multiple species of monomers polymerize to form a Copolymer and the process is known as Copolymerization

• Types of Copolymers

•Linear Copolymer - Those Polymers which contain a single chain are known as Linear Copolymers.

• Based on arrangement of monomers on the main chain Linear Copolymers are divided into many categories.

• Block Copolymers - Block Copolymers are single chain macromolecules formed when more than one homopolymer units are linked through covalent bonds.

• The two homopolymer chains are linked with each other through a unit called junction block.

• Example of Block Copolymer is SBS rubber.

• Stastical Copolymer - Stastical Copolymers are Polymers in which two or more monomers are arranged in a sequence . Some Stastical rules are followed hence the name.

• Example of Stastical Copolymer is rubber made from Copolymers of styrene and butadiene.

• Alternating Copolymers - A single main chain of Copolymers containing alternating monomers is called Alternating Copolymer.

• Periodic Copolymers- Periodic Copolymers are Polymers having repeating sequence of monomers arranged in a single chain.
