Answer:

Corrosion is a natural process that converts a refined metal into a more chemically stable form such as oxide, hydroxide, carbonate or sulfide. It is the gradual destruction of materials by chemical and/or electrochemical reaction with their environment.

Answer:

When a metal reacts with air or water forming an undesirable material is called corrosion. This changes the physical as well as chemical properties of that metal.

for example :

Tarnishing of silver

Silver reacts with Sulphur and Sulphur compounds in the air give Silver Sulfide which is black in color.

equation:- 2Ag(s) + H2S(g) → Ag2S(s) + H+2+(g)

Corrosion of Iron (Rusting)

When Iron reacts with air or water forming iron oxide which is brown

equation:- Fe2+ + 3O2 → Fe2O3 + xH2O

Copper Corrosion

When copper metal is exposed to the environment it reacts with the oxygen in the atmosphere to form copper oxide which is red in color.

equation:- Cu2O(s) + ½ O2(g) → 2CuO(s)

hope it helps
