A dam is a barrier that stops or restricts the flow of water or underground streams.
Dams are useful because
They help people by reducing or preventing floods. During times of excess water flow,dams store water in thereservoir; then they releasewater during times of low flow, when natural flows areinadequate to meet waterdemand. When engineers design and maintain dams,they consider all these purposes.
