Answer:

1)Dam is a barrier constructed to hold back water and raise its level, forming a reservoir used to generate electricity or as a water supply.

2)Dams are the barriers built across a river or stream for storage of water we build large dams for storage of adequate water for irrigation + other purposes.

3)Dams store water, provide renewable energy and prevent floods. Unfortunately, they also worsen the impact of climate change. They release greenhouse gases, destroy carbon sinks in wetlands and oceans, deprive ecosystems of nutrients, destroy habitats, increase sea levels, waste water and displace poor communities.

Answer:

A dam is a barrier across flowing water that obstructs, directs or retards the flow of water, often creating a reservoir, lake. Dams are constructed for various purposes like hydroelectricity, water storage, monitoring the river course, etc. If we build a large dam it may create problem among the local people because:

1. Displacement of local people without rehabilitation

2. Loss of livelihood of tribal community

3. Causes serious ecological problems like soil erosion, removal of forest etc.
