Rivers carry sediments. When such a river enters another water body like an ocean, sea or lake, the force of the flow is considerably reduced and due to this, the sediments are deposited at the point of entry. Over a period of time, there is build-up in sedimentation, that it forms a land-form called Delta.

The Ganges-Brahmaputra Delta is located between West Bengal in India and Bangladesh. It is one of the largest deltas in the world.
