The diploid number Of chromosome will be b) 6 according to image given

Explanation:

  • This picture represent metaphase state of  a mitotic cycle. here all the chromosomes of this cell arranged at equatorial plane of the cell.
  • As it is the picture of mitotic cycle, the cell is diploid. Diploid means each chromosome has two sets.  according to image given one chromosome name A , other chromosome name B,  suppose third chromosome name is given E. Now this A,B,E chromosome exist as two copy so there are 3×2=6 chromosome arranged on metaphase plate.
  • During anaphase of mitosis each sister chromatid move toward opposite pole and now each sister chromatid designated as chromosome. so there are 6 chromosomes on one pole and 6 chromosome on the other pole so diploid number is 6.
  • If this picture represent meiosis  then A chromosome pair with its homologous chromosome A , B chromosome pair with its homologous  chromosome B, E chromosome pair with its homologous chromosome E and arranged at equatorial plane.
  • during anaphase of meiosis, 3 chromosomes move toward one pole and 3 chromosomes on other pole, so haploid number will be 3, and diploid number will be 6.
