What is a double displacement reaction ? Explain with an example.
A small amount of quick lime is added to water in a beaker.
(i) Name and define the type of reaction that has taken place.
(ii) Write balanced chemical equation for the above reaction and
the chemical name of the product formed.

Explanation:

DOUBLE DISPLACEMENT REACTION:

THE REACTION IN WHICH THE IONS OF REACTANT ARE EXCHANGED AND FORM A PRECIPITATE; IT IS CALLED DOUBLE DISPLACEMENT REACTION

EX: Baso4 + k2cro4 -- Bacro4+k2so4

1.) it is decomposition reaction

2.)caco3 ---Cao +CO2

3.)the product form is lime water and CO2

and when CO2 pass through freshly prepared lime water it turns milky

Answer:

The reactions which occurs with the help of exchanging the ions between two or more reactants to form products . It is called double displacement reaction.

E.g- Na2SO4 + BaCl2 -BaSO4 + 2NaCl

Cao + H2O= Ca(OH)2

this is a combination reaction in which only one one product is formed from two or more reactants .

This is already balanced.

The chemical name of that product that is formed is Calcium Hydroxide.

Hope . It helps you .
