A dynasty is a kind of succession to the throne. (Often, there were only the male members of the family). In general, a dynasty rules over a country for several generations.
Dynasties were not just in China, but also in other parts of the world, for instance, the Windsor dynasty of Great Britain.

So, in China, the Qin dynasty was followed by many others. Under the Qing dynasty, China became the largest and the richest country by the end of the 18th century. The last Qing emperor renounced his throne in 1972.
