There are some certain special structures in our body located at specific places and which secrete certain substances. These structures are called glands. And there is a type of gland called the endocrine glands. The chemical substances that the endocrine glands secrete are called hormones which are circulated in the blood to reach the target sites. These hormones travel inside our body and act like chemical messengers. They are required in very minute quantities and they regulate the growth, development, behaviour and reproduction of the organism.
Hope this helps!
