Answer:

A gene is the basic physical and functional unit of heredity. Genes are made up of DNA. Some genes act as instructions to make molecules called proteins. However, many genes do not code for proteins. In humans, genes vary in size from a few hundred DNA bases to more than 2 million bases. The Human Genome Project estimated that humans have between 20,000 and 25,000 genes.Genes are Passed Down in Chromosomes Genes are found on long strands of DNA called chromosomes.

Function

Genes decide almost everything about a living being. One or more genes can affect a specific trait. Genes may interact with an individual's environment too and change what the gene makes.

Genes affect hundreds of internal and external factors, such as whether a person will get a particular color of eyes or what diseases they may develop.

Some diseases, such as sickle-cell anemia and Huntington's disease, are inherited, and these are also affected by genes.
