Platinum, gold , silver, copper, aluminum. In that order, platinum is best, al the least.  Of couse the list goes on, but I am describing common conductors.

Obviously,  having gold wires is expensive. So, gold is used in tiny wires when required. Generally,  al wires are used in street service drops to houses, and in cross country transmission lines, as well as the primary 7200 volt feeds to residental pole transformers.

Copper is the preferred conductor inside buildings as its an excellent conductor, and is less prone to causing fires in buildings.

Back in the day (1970's) aluminum wiring was tried in homes, but al wires caused too many home fires.  Special antioxidant paste was often used at connections for al wires and is still used when connecting service drops to breaker panels in homes.
