What is a good fuel?

A good fuel is the one which burns completely without producing smoke or ash. It produces large amount of heat by burning a small quantity of it. It possesses all the characteristics of good source of energy.

What is geothermal energy?

Geothermal energy is the energy obtained from the hot spots in the earth's crust. Underground water coming in contact with the hot spot, gets converted into steam and is trapped in rocks. This steam is routed through pipes to turbines and is used to generate electricity.

Hydrogen has been used as a rocket fuel. Would you consider it a cleaner fuel than CNG? Why or Why not?

Yes, because the burning of hydrogen releases water and burning of CNG produces carbon dioxide. This gas causes greenhouse effect on the earth.

Why are we looking at alternatives sources of energy?

We are looking at alternative sources of energy because the fossil fuels cannot be replenished back. Also the rate at which we are using them, will exhaust them soon. To meet the rising demand, we have to use alternative sources of energy.

What are limitations of the energy that can be obtained from the oceans?

The limitations of energy obtained from oceans are as given below:-

1. Locations, where dams can be built for tidal energy are limited.

2. Wave energy is obtained only where waves are strong.

3. Efficient commercial exploitation of ocean thermal energy is difficult.
