It is basic question of ,related to work of gravitational force,but many students face confusion in this......

:)We know,when the force is oopositee to the direction of motion,then the work done is negative....

:) Gravitational force always act toward the centre of the earth,,I,e the direction of gravitational force will always be in downaward direction,direction.

Negative work done by gravitational force:-

When,an object is thrown upward....the motion of object,is in upward direction,,i.e ooposite to the direction of force(gravitation),as it is always in downaward direction.....

so,in this case work done by gravitation force will be negative...

positive work done bu gravitational force

suppose,when,an object is dropped ,from a certain height,,it will move downward ,which is in the same direction of force.....

so,in this case,work done by gravitational force will be positive....
