Answer:

Long before astronauts traveled into space, people had to guess about Earth's shape. Some astronauts thought that Earth's shape was flat. Others thought that its shape was like a disc. However, no one had presented the real proof about its shape. That is until ancient Greek Geographer came along. They 's were some of the first scientists to figure out the shape of our planet. These Geographers used mathematics and their observations to design the first globes. These globes were our first model of Earth.

Earth has a geographical grid. This grid is found on the globes and on flat maps. It is pattern of horizontal and vertical lines. These lines intersect at the coordinates. Geographers use these coordinates to locate the places on Earth, on maps and on globes. The vertical lines are called Lines of Longitudes or Meridians. Lines of latitudes or parallels are the horizontal lines. These lines are popularly known as grid and help us to locate any place on the globe or on a flat map.

  • With the help of the grid , we can locate places.

  • How hot or cold it would be there in a particular place can be known.

  • We can know in which direction we should go to reach a particular place.

  • We can determine time of any place at any moment.
