1. a key is a button on the keyboard.

2. In DBMS a key is a set of on or more columns whose combined values are unique among all occurrences in a given table.

there are three types of keys in dbms:-

  • primary key- is is a field that uniquely identifies a record in a table.
  • super key- it has the uniqueness property but not necessarily irreducibility property. A candidate key is a special case of super key.
  • candidate key- it is a super key with no repeated attribute.

apart from these there are also some other keys like alternate key and foreign keys.

thanks!!
