a leap year is a year in which the month of February has 1 extra day. This is because Earth covers a year in 365 and 1/4th day. Now we consider a year only of 365 days , so if we add 1/4th day 4 times, then, it will count as a whole day. Hence we have one day extraa in a leap year.
