Its simple...
Look, the earth takes 365 days and 1/4 day to complete one revolution around the sun. But we take the time of one revolution to be 365 days only.
So, after four years these 1/4 day changes into 4/4 that is, a single day.
Hence, it forms a new day. That's the reason why we have 366 days in a leap year!
