Lok Adalat. Lok Adalat (People's Court) is one of the Alternative dispute resolution mechanism in India, it is a forum where cases pending on panchayat or at pre litigation stage in a court of law are settled. ... Accepts cases pending in regular court under their jurisdiction.

Explanation:

-The process of imparting justice is very lengthy and expensive, it is getting out of reach of the common man.

-As an effort to simplify the legal procedures' reduce the cost of litigation -and to provide speedy justice, Lok Adalats have been set up in 1985 at Delhi where about 150 cases were settled on the first day.

-The Lok Adalats are presided over a retired judge.

-The disputing parties plead their cases themselves and no advocate or pleader is allowed to argue the case.

-Even witnesses are not examined and efforts are made to settle the disputes by compromise, mutual agreement and on-the-spot decisions.

-Lok Adalats are called people's courts for speedy and inexpensive justice.
