matter is something which has mass and occupies space.

matter is anything that occupies space and has mass. we can say anything as matter when it contains space and Mass otherwise it is not said to be matter. for example light is not a matter because it does not have mass and space. for example solid liquid and gases these all are matter because they have spaces between them and have mass. solid has mass and the force of attraction is very high and in liquid the force of attraction is much higher than solids and gases have high compressibility.
