Mixture and Types of Mixtures are explained below:
Mixture: When two or more elements are mixed together, but they are not combined chemically, it is called a mixture.
Types of mixtures:
- Homogenous Mixture: Mixtures having uniform composition throughout are called homogenous mixtures. Example- a mixture of salt and water, a mixture of sugar and water.
- Heterogeneous Mixture: Mixtures having non-uniform composition are referred to as heterogeneous mixtures. Example- a mixture of oil and water, mixture of salt and sulphur.
Solution is explained below:
- A solution is a type of homogenous mixture in which two parts are present, viz. solvent and solute such that they cannot be seen by the naked eye.
- When one substance is dissolved in another substance, a solution is formed. The substance getting dissolved is solute while the substance in which the substance is dissolved is called the solvent.
- It is not necessary that the solvent is always liquid, it can be solid as well.
- Solutions are stable and they do not exhibit the Tyndall effect.
There are two types of solution as well:
- Aqueous solution: Solutions prepared by taking water as solvent are known as aqueous solutions.
- Non-aqueous solution: Solutions in which the solvent is any other substance except water are called non-aqueous solutions.
