Also known as a “natural disaster,” and once upon a time known as “acts of God,” a natural calamity is a traumatic environmental event, such as a flood, an earthquake, a typhoon, a hurricane, a tornado, a mudslide, a landslide, a volcanic eruption, a wildfire or other events I have not mentioned that causes catastrophic damage and destruction affecting a large area, large numbers of people or both. It is a natural calamity because it is caused by the environment (“nature”), and not by something humans could control.
