What is a neutral point? How is the positoin of neutral point located with the use of a compass needle?

neutral point is the point where the magnetic field of a natural magnet and the magnetic field of the earth is equal and opposite and hence the net magnetic field is zero.
If the compass needle rests in any direction then the point is neutral point.

Neutral point:

• A mathematical study of the longitudinal static stability of a complete aircraft (including horizontal stabilizer) yields the position of center of gravity at which permanency is neutral. This position is termed as the neutral point.

• As the net magnetic field is 0 at neutral points, the compass needle remains natural (i.e. it comes to rest pointing in any direction) at these points and hence, they can be detected.
