In waves/ optics, you must have come across the statements like' the two waves are in/out of phase'. It will help you understand the concept properly. Two waves are in phase when they are synchronised or in other word they both move together( their peaks to be precise). So phase basically represents the position of a wave with respect to either the origin or any other wave.
Another confusing this could be why is it represented by a unit of angle if it's a position.? So construction of a wave is not as simple drawing a wave is!
It is a bit complex where each point is drawn corresponding to the trigonometric angles ranging from thetha=0 to 2π.
