Four main types of plastids are:

Chloroplast

Chromoplast

Gerontoplast

Leucoplast

Functions:

°site of manufacture and storage of chemical compounds used by the cells

°contains pigments used in photosynthesis

°provide colour to fruits and vegetables

°trap solar energy for photosynthesis

The plastid

formed, molded – plural plastids) is a membrane-bound organelle found in the cells of plants, algae, and some other eukaryotic organisms. ... They often contain pigments used in photosynthesis, and the types of pigments in a plastid determine the cell's color.
