Political parties are a group of people believing in the same ideologies joining together to work for the betterment of society.

  • Political parties always act as an intermediate between the society and the government
  • They are meant to collect different ideologies from different parts and present them before the government
  • For the formation of a responsible government these parties bring together leaders with different opinions
  • They provide a mechanism to help, control, justify or criticize the government.
  • They also help to create laws that help the society
  • India is ruled by a coalition of political parties
  • The two examples of the political parties are:

Indian National Congress

  • It came into being  On 28th December 1885
  • It was founded by AO Hume
  • This party started influencing the political movements in India even before Independence
  • The party has given great leaders to the country such as Gandhiji, Nehru, Sardar Patel, Gopalakrishna Gokhale, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, etc.

Bharathiya Janatha Party

  • Founded by Syama Prasad Mukherjee, the BJP came into being in  1951.
  • The current ruling party of India is the Bharathiya Janatha party
