Political parties are a group of people believing in the same ideologies joining together to work for the betterment of society.
- Political parties always act as an intermediate between the society and the government
- They are meant to collect different ideologies from different parts and present them before the government
- For the formation of a responsible government these parties bring together leaders with different opinions
- They provide a mechanism to help, control, justify or criticize the government.
- They also help to create laws that help the society
- India is ruled by a coalition of political parties

Indian National Congress
- It came into being On 28th December 1885
- It was founded by AO Hume
- This party started influencing the political movements in India even before Independence
