Rules are explained for every step and process during communication between more computers.  

Networks follows these rules to successfully transmit data.

Network protocol explains rules and conventions for communication between network devices.  

Network protocols includes mechanisms for devices to trace and make connections with each other and formatting rules that specifies the way data is packaged and sent and received messages to and fro.

Examples are : HTTP,FTP and IP.
