rainbow is a meterological phenomenon which is formed by refraction and dispersion of light .the white light of sun when enters the surface of earth while  raining it gets dispersed as well as refracted by the water due to which it forms a spectrum . a spectrum always has the colours of the rainbow (VIBGYOR).a rainbow always forms a full circle but the observer only sees the arc due  illuminated objects. P.S. the blue colour of sky is also due to the refraction and dispersion of sun's rays
